Just Us, Just This Journey

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

~ Helmuth von Moltke

We often begin our journey with a visualization of what we hope will unfold. But very quickly we are faced with the challenge of who we are and where we are. Whatever we had in mind at the beginning, something different has unfolded that we have to accept and embrace as if we’ve chosen it.

There is no perfect team and no perfect season. There is just us, and we have the capacity to decide how we will respond to each other and the journey as it’s unfolding. We discuss how to do this with Unconditional Situational and Self Acceptance, using key EWI Tools like Said, Heard, Do Better/Differently and the Team Compact.

Learn how to:
  • Have a dialogue with your team about who we are, where we are, and what is needed moving forward.
  • Convert the dialogue into a Team Compact—a set of agreements on what we will do and avoid doing as we pursue our goals.
  • Practice Unconditional Situational Acceptance, accepting that our preferences are not requirements and we can learn to embrace what is exactly as it is.
  • Practice Unconditional Self Acceptance, choosing our response to what is unfolding, giving ourselves compassion and tough love, and refocusing on what we’re still trying to achieve.
